Research Abstract |
I fully made a fundamental study concerning Japanese seal engravings andengravers, using three kinds of methods: research, literature review, and a scientific method, in which study, historical consideration on seals and research on engravers' lives and their works were made. In addition, in this study I also discussed the lives and works of writers and artists who were interested in seal engraving. In Japan, studies of seals and seal engravers were not sufficient. Much less were systematic ones with historical, artistic, and cultural aspects. However, since this study has clarified a part of such aspects of Japanese seals and seal engravers, it can be regarded as a stable step toward systematizing the study of Japanese seals.
