Research Abstract |
There were two routes to introduce western style architecture into modern Kumamoto in early Meiji Era. One is that from Nagasaki at the beginning, and the other from Tokyo later. Until around 20th year of Meiji Era, the "western" style in Kumamoto, whether from Nagasaki or Tokyo, was "pseudo-western". After that, however,"formal" western style architecture was introduced from Tokyo, and it started to spread out gradually in Kumamoto prefecture.
