Research Abstract |
The aim of this study is to examine how gender and sexuality construct and reconstruct the social space of the African American socio-religious act or"Orisa Worship movement."This study scrutinizes the way African American women and homosexual men, often labeled as"minorities within minorities"throughout the history of the black movement in the US, have been engaged in this social activity for the past 60 years. This research then reveals the transformation of the cultural/religious practices of participants as individuals as well as members and the political structure of the socio-religious movement by the engagement of those minorities.
