Research Abstract

Smoking is a risk factor for the initiation, extent and severity of periodontal disease. However, periodontitis of the smokers is not necessarily aggravated. Therefore, in this study, I investigated genetic polymorphisms in the CYP2Y6 gene in Japanese periodontitis patients with smoking history and periodontally healthy control subjects with smoking history. An association analysis with allelotypes showed that SNPs identified in the CYP2Y6 gene have no significant association with periodontitis associated with smoking in the Japanese population.
