| Outline of Research at the Start |
近年、社会問題となっている万引きについて、本研究では、これまで独立して研究されてきた万引きの予防、万引きへの対応、万引きからの更生という一連のプロセスにおける地域との協働に焦点を当て、包括的な万引き防止教育プログラムの開発を行う。具体的には、万引きの予防、万引きへの対応、万引きからの更生の観点から、調査を実施し、それぞれの観点から調査結果に基づいてプログラムを開発し、効果検証を行う。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we developed a comprehensive shoplifting prevention education program, focusing on collaboration with the community in the series of processes of shoplifting prevention, response to shoplifting, and rehabilitation from shoplifting. In shoplifting prevention, a survey was conducted targeting junior high school students and senior citizens, and a prevention education program was developed. In response to shoplifting, we conducted a survey of store managers and part-timers, developed an education program for store employees, and created a manual for dealing with self-checkout shoplifting, which has become a problem in recent years. In the area of rehabilitation from shoplifting, we developed recidivism prevention programs for youth and adults based on the programs of the National Association for Shoplifting Prevention, and developed our own recidivism prevention program for the elderly.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
万引き被害額は莫大であるが、万引き対策は様々な課題が山積していることからも、万引き防止教育に関する研究は社会的に大きな意義をもち、包括的な研究が行われていないことからも大きな学術的独自性を持つといえる。また、万引き防止などの防犯対策は、これまで調査結果などのエビデンスに基づかずに思い込みなどで対策が立てられてきたが、エビデンスに基づいた万引き防止を探る本研究は社会的に非常に価値があり、本研究でも実際に効果をあげてきていることからも、全国に万引き防止教育のノウハウを広めることで、多大な地域貢献になると考えられる。
