Outline of Research at the Start

新型コロナウイルス感染症のパンデミック(世界流行)は世界の脅威であり、早期発見・早期封じ込めが流行制御のために必須である。一方、食品や環境水を介した感染リスクは不明なので、汚染実態を解明する必要がある。しかし、いずれも優れた検査法が存在しないことがボトルネックとなっている。

問題解決のために、微量なインフルエンザウイルスの濃縮検出法(研究代表者らが開発済)を (1) ヒト唾液・うがい液および(2) 食品・環境水からの同ウイルスの高感度検出用に、新たに応用開発する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

Highly sensitive methods for the detection of SARS-CoV-2 from large volumes of saliva was successfully developed. By investigating the possession of SARS-CoV-2 in farmed oysters, we showed that the possibility of being infected with SARS-CoV-2 through consumption of farmed oysters in Japan is extremely low. Unlike noroviruses, it is also extremely unlikely that farmed oysters are responsible for the transmission of the SARS-CoV-2 in nature.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

大容量の唾液からの新型コロナウイルスの高感度検出法を開発したことで、スクリーニングや高感度診断などにも応用できる可能性を示唆した。開発した方法が自然感染個体の動物の口腔液内のウイルスに対しても使用できることを証明し、開発した方法の高い汎用性を示した。養殖マガキが自然界において、新型コロナウイルスの感染環を担っている可能性が極めて低いことが本研究結果から推測された。欧州からの先行研究は感染性を有しない遺伝子断片を検出し、食品からの新型コロナウイルス感染リスクを過大に評価している可能性を示唆した。
