戦間期の国際交易をアレクサンドリアをハブとした物流・人流およびインド洋航路を通した横浜／日本との交易を軸にとらえ直し、グローバルヒストリー研究に立脚した新しい地域研究の視座として戦間期の日本と中東・地中海の関係を明らかにすることを目指す。それとともに、史資料の整理とビジュアル化の新しい方法としてGIS技術を時空間情報の整理・検索・表示に拡張・特化させた「ヒストリカル・デジタルグローブ」と名付けるデータベースを構築し、そこに情報を集約することでデジタルアーカイブの新機軸を目指す。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, we continue to analyze trade around Egypt by 1) clarifying the differences between the Mediterranean trade network with Alexandria as its hub, the long-distance sea routes with Port Said and the Suez Canal as its hub, and the Mediterranean-Red Sea coastal trade, the characteristics of the ships, and especially the connections with each of the European great powers, through a longitudinal analysis of data such as the number of ships (by flag) departing and arriving at each port along the Egyptian coast, and the size of the ships, etc. Ships passing through the Suez Canal were mainly British, but we also deciphered the colonial strategies of each of the European great powers, including Italy and Germany.

本研究ではエジプトをめぐる交易については引き続き①エジプト沿岸各港出入港船舶の所属（旗別）船舶数、船舶規模等のデータの経年分析からアレクサンドリア港をハブとする環地中海交易ネットワークとポートサイード港およびスエズ運河をハブとする遠洋航路および地中海ー紅海沿岸交易との差異、船舶の特徴、とくにヨーロッパ列強諸国それぞれとのつながりを明らかにした。スエズ運河通過船舶はイギリスを中心にしながらもイタリア、ドイツ等々ヨーロッパ列強それぞれの植民地戦略を解読した。
