| Outline of Research at the Start |
「インド・太平洋」という概念は、広大な海を構成する各海洋を精査して組み上げられたものではない。本研究では、ボトムアップ型の視点から「インド太平洋」という戦略概念を検証しつつ、その構想と実態に、どの程度整合性があるのか、齟齬をきたしているのか。また、現実とのギャップを踏まえつつ、どういった「海の秩序」の構想が望ましいのか、アンダマン・マラッカ海域を対象に、インドネシア、マレーシア、タイ、ミャンマーの４カ国の関係とその変容の歴史を、経済関係、安全保障、国境ガバナンスの３つの観点から考察し、「インド太平洋」という地政学的概念の限界を指摘すると共に、より現実に即した「海の秩序」のための構想を提起する。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
The leading political and economic powerhouse, such as USA and Japan proposed the strategic concept of "Indo-Pacific", while we considered what kind of "maritime order" is desirable, and analysed the current conditons and its transformation among the four countries of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Myanmar, focusing on the Straits of Andaman and Malacca.
Due to the COVID-19 disaster, we were forced to change the original field survey and the international conference. but we fortunately published the book as a result of this research. The book, "Approaching Southeast Asian Politics: Monarchy, Governance, and Socio-Economy" (edited by Nakanishi Yoshihiro, Nagai Fumio, and Kwano Motoko, Koyo Shobo, March 2025, 270page), consists of 13 chapters and was written by experts in various fields, including the representative and all of the contributors of this study, as well as two Thai experts.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
「インド太平洋」という概念は、中国への牽制を意識した大国中心のトップダウンで生まれた構想である。本研究は、インド洋と太平洋を実際に構成するローカルな海域の特質、歴史的変容をボトムアップ型の検証を行った。成果として刊行した図書『東南アジア政治へのアプローチ』が示すように、研究成果の社会的意義として、東南アジアの国々は、中国・インドに並ぶ世界の成長エンジンであること、この地域は複雑多様な政治の謎をもつこと、を明らかにしたことがあげられる。他方、学術的には、本書はこの地域を深く理解するための今後の研究の行方と可能性を示唆し大きな意義をもつ。
