Outline of Research at the Start

地震の震源で発生するプロセス(破壊を伴う摩擦すべり運動)を、確率的現象として理解するためにデータ解析や理論計算などを用いた研究を行う。地震には普通の地震とともに数ヘルツから日単位の広周波数(周期)帯域にわたるスロー地震を含む。地震発生帯内部に存在する階層的な断層構造に着目して、確率的予測可能性を検討する。日本を中心に世界各地の地震現象を対象に研究を進めて、普遍的な地震の性質を明らかにする。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究では確率論的地震発生論構築を目指して、(A)階層的固有性と決定論的震源プロセスのデータ解析、(B)スロー地震のデータ分析フロンティアの開拓、(C)確率論的地震モデルの高度化、の3サブカテゴリでデータ解析やモデル計算を進めている。今年度は以下の研究実績があった。
(A) 階層的破壊すべりの単位プロセスである意動的震源核形成過程について、過去の研究を見直し成果としてまとめた。階層性モデルを用いた現実的地震サイクルモデルの生成条件を東北沖を対象に検討した。歪計データを地震データとしても活用するため、100秒前後の周波数帯域における歪データの有効性を確認した。そのデータを用いたメカニズム推定法を開発し、推定精度の検証を行った。
(B) 日本国内で開発した広帯域スロー地震の検出分析手法をメキシコの沈み込み帯に適用し、既存の現象の検出とともに未知のスロー地震のモニタリングに成功した。サンアンドレアス断層の低周波地震の断層メカニズム解析を進め、地震ファミリーごとのメカニズムを推定した。スロー地震のデータ解析について、既往研究の様々な問題点を整頓し、スロー地震のスケール法則の見直しを行った。スロースリップの客観的検知手法を開発しカタログ整備をおこなった。
(C) 2D-BSEモデルの地質現象への適用に向けた予備解析を行った。用いて微動とVLFEのサイズ分布の揺らぎの定量化を行う。火山性低周波地震の活動について、新たな確率論的モデルを構築し、データとの比較から、この現象がプレート境界の低周波地震と類似のすべり現象らしいことを突き止めた。スロー地震と普通の地震の確率論的な違いについての考察を行った。

Reason

本年度は5編の論文を出版することができた。年度末の時点で4編の論文が投稿済みであり、今後順次出版される予定である。学会発表も多数行っており、他機関の研究者との共同研究も順調に進んでいる。唯一の想定外は、カリフォルニアのデータ解析を行うために雇用する予定だった研究員が雇用できなかったことである。その代わりにフランスとの国際共同研究を充実させることで対処した。その結果として、当初予定していなかった動的破壊核形成過程についての良い研究をまとめることができた。予定していたカリフォルニアのデータ解析を行う研究者については、次年度に確保できる目途がついた。上記理由により、おおむね順調に進展しているといえる。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

引き続き、(A)階層的固有性と決定論的震源プロセスのデータ解析、(B)スロー地震のデータ分析フロンティアの開拓、(C)確率論的地震モデルの高度化、の3サブカテゴリでデータ解析やモデル計算を進める。特任研究員の雇用を予定しているが、予定通りにいかない場合には、国際交流の増加を通じた新たな研究課題の追加で対応する。

(A) 階層性モデルにおける現実的地震サイクル計算を、日本海溝三陸沖の沈み込み帯を対象に行う。Chang and Ide (2021)の階層的破壊すべりの分析手法を、チリ沈み込み帯の繰り返し地震へ適用する。以前開発した動的震源核形成モデルについて、再検討し研究成果をまとめる。階層性の存在する場における、摩擦法則の空間不均質性とスケール普遍性の関係に関して検討を行う。
(B) 広帯域スロー地震分析法を完成し、日本全域及び他地域(メキシコ)に適用する。テクトニック微動をはじめとした各種スロー地震の潮汐応答を、世界各地で定量的に評価する。サンアンドレアス断層の低周波地震のメカニズム解析を進める。継続時間の短い微動の成因についてのモデルを完成させる。DASを用いた新しい地震データ解析手法を開発する。ひずみデータを用いたメカニズム推定法を開発する。
(C) 2D-BSEモデルを用いて、テクトニック微動とVLFEのサイズ分布の揺らぎの定量化を行う。2D-BSEモデルとOFCモデル等の様々な統計物理学的地震モデルとの関係をに明らかにする。昨年開発したスロー地震の予測モデルの改良を行う。テクトニック微動やスロースリップのイベント履歴を予測モデルに取り入れ、予測実験を行う。
