Outline of Research at the Start

肺Mycobacteirum avium complex感染症という慢性の呼吸器感染症の診療の際に、女性ホルモンなどを測定することで、どういった方が重症化するのか治療が必要なのかを、予測できないかということを、患者検体や細胞実験、動物実験を通じて検証していく。この研究を通じて肺Mycobacteirum avium complex感染症の病態についても明らかにすることを目指す。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study focused on the role of the female hormone estrogen as a potential predictor of disease progression in pulmonary non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) disease, particularly pulmonary Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) disease, which has shown a marked increase in incidence in recent years. Clinical samples and data necessary to analyze serum hormone levels and immune responses have been successfully collected and are currently under analysis to verify the potential involvement of hormones in disease progression. Additionally, the study yielded new findings regarding the efficacy of antimicrobial agents and the optimal duration of culture-based diagnostic testing.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究の成果により、NTMやMAC症に関するバイオマーカー評価のための臨床的研究基盤の構築に成功した。さらに、抗酸菌症の検査に関する、現場発のさまざまなエビデンスを学術的に発信することにより、より効率的で適切な抗酸菌症の検査診断基盤、および診療基盤の構築に資すると考えられる。
