Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In this study, we found that ICT use among older adults declines with age, and non-users exhibit stronger risk-avoidance and status-quo biases, increasing their likelihood of social isolation. We also observed that even one-way SNS apps―those that only allow users to receive messagesーcan sustain older adults’ engagement with social networking and health-management tools over time. In semi-structured interviews with seventeen near-retirees, text analysis revealed seven key factors shaping their social interactions: the pension system, socioeconomic status, family structure, community characteristics, psychological well-being, cognitive health, and personality traits. Finally, a visual stereotype analysis using AI-generated images showed that, when given the same prompt, older adults are often portrayed as men wearing glasses, rendered with muted brightness and color contrast, soft contours, and ambiguous smiles.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
