本研究は、パフォーマティヴィティという批判的な枠組みを用いて、日本における独立映画の在り方を、特にその主要な推進者の一人であった新藤兼人（1912-2012）の貢献によって検証することを目的としている。そのために、新藤兼人の全映画作品および映画に関する著作を丹念に調査し、様々な限定のもとで行う独立映画づくりにとってのパフォーマティヴィティの役割と機能を明らかにする。こうしたパフォーマティヴィティの実践は、どのようにして、独立映画という極めて不安定な活動を支援できるのか？この問いを考え抜くと同時に、映画研究とパフォーマティヴィティ論を接合する可能性を探っていく。

| Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
新藤兼人の映像作品および映画に関する著作をパフォーマティヴィティの観点から調査し、その結果をいくつかの方法によって公開した。新藤著『日本シナリオ史』の資料編纂方法を分析した論文「A Historiography of Japanese Screenwriting」が『The Palgrave Handbook of Screenwriting Studies』（Palgrave Macmillan)で2023年７月に刊行された。新藤『裸の島』の脚本における叙述方法を分析した論文「Narrative Structure in the Screenplay of The Naked Island (1960)」が、論集『Bloomsbury Handbook of Global Screenplay Theory』（Bloomsbury Academic）へ招待され、執筆中である。しかし、今年9月に広島大学を退職したので、本プロジェクトの廃止を申請し、承認を得たものの、研究の目的を今後も別の方法で達成するつもりである。
