Outline of Research at the Start

若い太陽型原始星まわりでの惑星系形成と、そこでの物質進化を探ることは、我々が住む地球がもつ豊かな環境の起源の理解に直結する重要な研究課題の一つである。本研究課題では、惑星系誕生の場である原始星円盤の形成過程の観測的研究に機械学習を導入することで、データがもつ情報を最大限に引き出すための新たな解析手法の開発・実践・検証を行う。現在、電波観測研究の分野では、膨大な観測データの効率的な活用が課題になっている。本研究課題では、機械学習と物理モデル計算を併用した無バイアスな解析手法の開発により、この問題に正面から取り組む。

Outline of Annual Research Achievements

本研究課題の目的は、原始星に付随して形成される回転円盤構造の観測研究に機械学習・深層学習を導入して、観測データがもつ情報を最大限に抽出するための新しい解析手法の開発と実践・検証を行うことである。解析には、国際共同大型電波干渉計アルマ (ALMA) による3次元の分子輝線観測データを使用する。
教師あり学習の一種であるサポートベクターマシーン (SVM) および三次元畳み込みニューラルネットワーク (3D-CNN) を用いて学習したモデルを用いて、3次元の速度構造から、ガス運動の種類を判別するモデルを作成した。学習には、二種類の異なる円盤構造の物理モデルによって生成した擬似観測データセットを使用した。学習済みのモデルは、擬似観測データに対して高い汎化性能を示すことを確認した。学習済みモデルを実際のALMA観測データに適用し、若い低質量原始星連星IRAS 16293-2422 Source Aにおける分子輝線データがもつ速度構造を分類することに成功した。これにより、ガスの運動と化学組成分布の対応を明らかにするための全く新しい解析手法を提示した。
開発した解析手法を、国内外の研究者との共同研究を通して、低質量星から大質量星までを含む複数の原始星天体に付随する円盤構造と、活動銀河核に付随するトーラス構造に対して適用するための議論を進めた。また、この手法を活用する新たな観測データの取得のため、観測公募への計画提案を行なった。これらの成果について、国内外の学会で報告した。

Reason

若い原始星を取り巻くガスの運動は、ケプラー回転する円盤構造と、そこに向かって回転しながら降着するエンベロープガスの二種類に大別される。前者 (原始星円盤, 原始惑星系円盤) は、惑星系形成の母体であり、円盤構造がもつ物理条件は、将来作られる惑星の環境を規定する重要な要素である。しかし、円盤構造はどこまで広がっているのか、そこにどのような物質が含まれているのかといった基本的な要素すら、未だ完全には理解されていない。これまでの研究で、ある種の分子輝線がこれらのガス構造を選択的に捉える「分子マーカー」として働くことを示してきた。また、これは同時に、降着ガスから円盤構造にかけて、ガスの化学組成が急激に変化していることを意味する。分子マーカーとして有用な分子輝線は、天体ごとの化学的多様性に依って異なるため、どの分子輝線が円盤構造の解析に適しているのかを都度判断することが必要である。本研究課題で開発した解析手法を適用することで、実際に観測された分子輝線データの内のいずれが円盤構造のトレーサーとして有用であるかを判別可能であることを示した。この成果について、国内外の研究会で発表した。この手法は低質量原始星天体を主な対象として開発を開始したが、研究会での議論を通して、大質量原始星や活動銀河核を取り巻くガス構造にも応用するための新たな共同研究を立ち上げた。

Strategy for Future Research Activity

本研究課題で開発した解析手法を、より多くの天体での観測研究に適用してその有効性の実証を進めるとともに、観測データの科学的解釈に繋げる。適用する天体は低質量原始星に限らず、国内外での共同研究を通して大質量原始星や活動銀河核にも適用範囲を広げる。今後は、より一般化された学習済みモデルを作成し、公開することで、共同研究を含む当該分野の研究を広く推し進めることを目指す。学習モデルの改良のため、膨大な擬似観測データを作成し保持するための大容量ストレージを措置する。
