Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements

This project produced a comprehensive database of conch morphology for all extant nautilus species. Analysis of the three characters the outer shell, suture line, and septal spacing revealed that the outer shell is useful in distinguishing species. Interspecific differences are most pronounced during middle ontogeny. These findings are applicable to closely related fossil cephalopods, particularly extinct nautiloids.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
