Outline of Research at the Start

Current optical transmission systems are reaching fundamental throughput limitations. Two main approaches are currently being researched to increase the data-rates in optical fiber transmission systems: space-division multiplexing, where signals are transmitted in different spatial channels of a fiber and multi-band transmission, where the spectral region for transmission is extended beyond the traditional C-band around 1.55μm wavelength. The focus of this project is to investigate the compatibility of novel SDM fibers with the transmission of novel spectral transmission windows.
