| Outline of Research at the Start |
I aim to examine the factors, opportunities and initiations for the ‘creative development’ of the popular ‘ancient towns’, which are already in the stage of advanced heritage commoditization. I would like to determine the most sustainable development approach in the touristic living heritage sites.
|
| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This research focuses on the theme of "Cultural Heritage in Everyday Life in Asia", focusing on efforts to preserve the traditional culture passed down by local people, while balancing heritage preservation and tourism development, and has conducted field research on World Heritage sites in Japan, southern China and Vietnam. The results of the research include a report at the international conference ICAS12 in 2021 and a paper based on the report (peer-reviewed). In 2022, I have hosted an international online symposium titled "Survival of Cultural Heritage: Challenges of Preservation and Tourism Development," with the participation of 14 researchers from Japan and abroad. Currently I am compiling the results of my field surveys in Duong Lam in northern Vietnam and Hoi An in central Vietnam, and preparing an academic book based on it.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
The study enriched the academic discourse on heritage commoditization, introducing insights into the concept of "creative destruction" and promoted more inclusive and participatory approaches to heritage management that respect both cultural identity and economic sustainability.
