| Outline of Research at the Start |
日本と韓国をはじめとした東アジア諸国との間で、近代の戦争・植民地支配をめぐる葛藤が生じている。しかし、日本社会の人々、特に若い世代にとって日本の帝国経験はどこか遠くリアリティの感じられない出来事とみなされている。
以上の状況に対処するために、韓国に滞在し、韓国人研究者や韓国の学生・市民との共同研究等を実施するとともに、韓国での史料調査やフィールドワークをおこなうことで、（1）地域社会史を中心として帝国日本の歴史的経験を実証的に明らかにするとともに、（2）入門的書籍の開発などを含め、歴史教育や市民への歴史に関する知識の普及方法の検討にとりくむ。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study aimed to develop historical research and historical education that conveys the reality of the imperial experience of modern Japan through international joint research, including an extended stay in South Korea. The results of this research have culminated in “The University Students' Seoul Deep Dive Guide” (Otsuki Shoten, 2024), edited by Keiki Kato Seminar, which examines the imperial experience mainly from the perspective of local communities and was produced for citizens and students. Another important achievement is a book for the general public on the perception of colonial rule, “The Moyamoya of ‘Japan and Korea’ and Us” (Otsuki Shoten, 2023), supervised by Keiki Kato and edited by Kimika Asakura and others.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
第一に、市民や学生が理解することが難しい日本の朝鮮植民地支配の歴史をはじめとした日本の帝国経験について、わかりやすく伝える方法を開発したことである。第二に、韓国に長期滞在し、韓国の研究者や市民との対話や共同研究を通じて、第一の問題について考察を深めたことである。特に、日本での市民向け書籍刊行の実践などを韓国で伝えるとともに、それらの書籍を韓国で翻訳紹介することができたことは特筆されるべき成果である。
