Research Abstract |
In order to detect HIV-1 superinfection (or dual-infection), we constructed three sets of primers that were designed to specifically amplify HIV-1 strains forming large clusters in Osaka. Proviral DNA samples obtained from 63 HIV-1-infected patients were analysed by nested PCR using the cluster-specific primers, and two cases were found to be dually infected with two distinct HIV-1 subtype B.
