Research Abstract |
We investigated anti-suicidal effects of lithium in an epidemiological setting. Lithium levels of drinking water were measured at 297 points in 118 cities and their associations with suicide rates were calculated after adjustment of several factors potentially affecting suicides. As a result, lithium levels were significantly and negatively associated with female suicide rates in Oita, Saga, and Nagasaki prefectures.
