Research Abstract

This study aimed to devise perioperative nursing procedures for patients receiving metastatic liver cancer surgery that reflects their experiences of primary cancer surgery. We conducted a literature analysis, interviews with patients, interviews with nurses, and observation of a hospital in the United States. The results suggested that the following factors were important for nursing care: taking account of the influence of primary cancer surgery on patients' mind and body, considering the psychological dimension of patients with metastatic cancer, putting a focus on cancer treatment and recuperation that would continue after surgery , and respecting the attitude and power of patients living with cancer.
