Research Abstract |
This research examined the unit that influenced prosody mainly in the Sasebo dialect, in the northwest of Kyushu. Results of the acoustic analysis suggested that special morae such as long vowels at the end of a tonal phrase delayed the start of F0 fall for older speakers. However, this was not the case for younger speakers. Thus syllable unit was used for older speakers and mora for younger speakers. The results suggested the unit that influenced prosody varied depending on age in the Sasebo dialect.
