Research Abstract |
This study discusses the traditional technique of flood management and environmental change in Kofu Basin area. Ushi and Waku, the traditional technique of flood management in Kai Province, were used in the Tenryu River during the latter part of the Edo Period. Those had spreaded in the western area of Tenryu River later.During the Edo Period in Kai Province, the network between villages were much valued for flood control. The development of the arable land and the change from farming to rice crop in the early 17th century had a great influence on landscape in Kofu Basin area.
