| Research Abstract |
Soluble insulin receptor(sIR) was found to exist in human plasma and its amount was elevated in patients with diabetes. In this study, we have developed an in vitro cell model system, which mimics the sIR generation in humans, by using human cell line and an ultra-sensitive enzyme immunoassay for sIR. The sIR generation was positively correlated with the glucose concentration in the medium as well as the duration of the cell culture. In contrast, the identical osmolarity with sorbitol, mannitol or sodium chloride solutions did not stimulate the sIR generation. Therefore, glucose is thought to work as a stimulant for sIR after it is absorbed and metabolized in the cell.
