2022年度から2025年度にマカバ1号墳のできるだけ多くの石室の調査を実施し、副葬品の考古学的分析、人骨の人類学的分析や理化学分析を通して被葬者の人体的特性や集団構成、食性、出生地の同定を行う。またマカバ第1号墳の被葬者との特性の比較を行うために、1号墳の隣接地に所在するマカバ古墳群東地区の古墳を調査し、1号墳と同様の分析を実施する。最終年度の2026年には補足調査・分析を行い、結果をまとめる。
