本研究は、大腸がん予防法の確立に始まり、発症メカニズムの解明、大腸がんの治療法といった様々な分野に波及効果を及ぼすことが期待でき、社会に対して直接的に大きなインパクトを示すと確信する。コリバクチン研究で得られる知見は、腸内細菌が持つ毒素生合成遺伝子群の活性化といったヒト細胞と共生菌との間で働くシグナルおよびその伝達機構の解明にも役立ち、天然物（環境因子）がシグナル分子として介する疾患の誘因および悪化のメカニズムの解明へと繋がり、さらに予防へと貢献できるはずである。
