Outline of Research at the Start	世紀転換期~20世期前半にロンドンのウェスト・エンドにおいて多く上演された客間喜劇と呼ばれるジャンルの演劇は、イギリスの劇団による世界巡業や、旧植民地での英語教育、あるいは、訪英した外国人による観劇や翻訳・翻案等を通して、国境を越え、形を変えて世界各地で上演された。本研究課題は、イギリスのそういった演劇が非西洋文化圏において、どのように模倣され現地の文化に適合して行ったのか、そしてそれぞれの国のアイデンティティ構築にどのように関連していたのかについて、調査・研究することを目的とする。
