Outline of Research at the Start |
This research project is an analysis of the production of haiku in 19th and 20th Latin American Literature. Ultimately the project seeks to discover the origins of orientalized discourse related to haiku by tracing historical and literary processes that have led to the propagation of distorted notions of this poetic style. This project intends to build on research the three collaborators have previously developed in the studies of nationalist literature and hopes to contribute to the reshaping of haiku among Latin American literati and correct essentialist notions of Japanese culture.

This year's research was primarily centered on three main activities: 1) academic conference presentations, 2) academic journal publications, 3) activities related to the book to be published . Academic conferences were attended domestically as well as internationally. These conferences were essential in establishing contacts with pertinent investigators in similar fields and attaining most recent information about relevant research related to the present project. Publications in academic journals served to disseminate the findings of the current research project and to attain valuable feedback from researchers in related fields. Publications were oriented toward an international audience and spanned across multidisciplinary field of research. Also, during these meetings the organization of the book and who complete each section was discussed. In addition, overseas fieldwork research to complement present research data was discussed.

Current Status of Research Progress |
Current Status of Research Progress
3: Progress in research has been slightly delayed.
Reason
The progress of the current has been slightly delayed throughout the last year. This is mostly because of obligations related to main employment. Administrative obligations at the collaborators respective universities have made the organization of meetings difficult and have hindered the ability to carry out related research. Progress of the project book has been delayed mostly due to the inability to organize periodic meetings to make essential decisions related to the content, structure and organization of the book.Lastly, meetings on several occasions were organized to discuss and plan the progress and structure of the book to be published. Also, during these meetings the organization of the book and who will complete each section. In addition, overseas fieldwork research to compliment present research data.
