Outline of Research at the Start

これまで基盤に吸着したヘリウム薄膜をナノサイズの細孔中に閉じ込めることで、流体としての次元性や原子間の相互作用を制御し、興味ある新しいヘリウム量子流体をデザインする技術を確立してきた。その中で「一次元3Heは、相互作用する量子一次元系全般を記述する朝永ラッティンジャー液体として振る舞うか」「通常BCS超流動を起こす3Heの二量体BEC超流動はありうるか」など、近年実験的に示唆はされつつあるが未だ解明されていない重要な問題について、本研究で実験的な研究を行う。核磁気共鳴法を主な測定手段とし比熱測定や振動測定など他の物性と組み合わせた体系的な測定を行うことで、問題の解決をめざす。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

In order to explore Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid properties of one-dimensional (1D) helium-3 fluid, we observed the nuclear spin diffusion for dilute helium-3 fluid adsorbed in nanotunnels, using the nuclear magnetic resonance. As a result, we found a dimensional crossover of diffusive motion from 1D to 3D, and experimentally proved that the low-temperature behavior of nuclear spin-spin relaxation, which qualitatively agrees with a Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid property, reflects 1D dynamics of helium-3 fluid. And, we observed thermal excited diffusional motion at high temperature, which is consistent with the nuclear spin-spin relaxation, and found a minimum of the diffusion coefficient around the Fermi temperature, which might be related with Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

電子系とは異なる相互作用を持つ1次元ヘリウム3量子流体の基底状態の研究は、応用面でも期待される1次元量子系の朝永ラッティンジャー液体描像の現在進行中の検証をさらに発展させるうえで大きな意義がある。本研究期間内では、装置トラブルのためその朝永ラッティンジャー液体物性の確証までには至らなかったが、朝永ラッティンジャー液体と定性的に合致する核スピンスピン緩和が、1次元ダイナミクスによるものである確証が実験的に得られたことは非常に重要な進展である。
