Outline of Research at the Start

本研究では、ボアホールマイニングシステムによる低品位炭採掘技術とCO2ガスモルタルを用いた採掘跡地(地下空間)を利用したCO2地中貯留そして環境修復技術を融合して、実質的にカーボンフリーな低品位石炭資源を用いた水素の製造を可能とする「水素サプライチェーン構築を目指した環境低負荷型低品位石炭資源採掘-CO2貯留システム-」の確立を目標とする。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

The application of underground coal gasification (UCG) technology was disucussed as a mining method for low-rank coal. As a result, it was found that the same amount of combustible gas could be recovered from low-rank coal as from high-rank coal, and the hydrogen production efficiency per injected oxygen was comparable to that of high-rank coal, making it clear that low-rank coal has sufficient potential for hydrogen production. It was also investigated the underground fixation of CO2 using blast furnace slag and CO2 microbubble water. As a result, it was found that CO2 in the CO2 microbubble water was fixed as carbonate minerals, and that non-carbonated CO2 could be stored by the structural trap formed in the pores of the packing material.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements

本研究では、石炭の地下ガス化による低品位炭採掘技術と高炉スラグおよびマイクロバブル水によるCO2ガスモルタルを用いた採掘跡地(地下空間)を利用したCO2地中貯留を融合して「水素サプライチェーン構築を目指した環境低負荷型低品位石炭資源採掘-CO2貯留システム-」を目指して研究を行った。本研究成果により、これまで未利用で安価かつ大量に賦存する化石燃料である低品位石炭資源を次世代クリーンエネルギーである水素に生まれ変わらせる水素エネルギーサプライチェーンの構築に大きく貢献することが出来、わが国のみならず世界のエネルギーの安定供給を可能にする有効なシステムの一つとなることが期待される。
