Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
In this study, we aimed to develop an efficient drug delivery system to the brain via intranasal administration that could contribute to the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Specifically, it adopted a strategic, dual approach: (1) designing a highly efficient brain delivery method that takes into account physiological functions in vivo, and (2) optimizing intranasal formulations. It is currently investigating whether nasal-to-brain drug delivery can be controlled from a physiological perspective by elucidating the influence of a sleep/wake cycle on the brain distribution of drugs after intranasal administration. In parallel, it was successfully developed an optimized intranasal formulation capable of achieving more efficient nose-to-brain drug delivery. This formulation demonstrated the suppression of chronic neuroinflammation, which is associated with the onset of neurodegenerative diseases.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
