Outline of Research at the Start |
Objectives: evaluate and compare the causal impacts on farmers’ take-up of crop insurance and payment default among the three timings of premium payments (pay-up-front, pay-at-harvest, installments). Research plan: AY2022: conducting baseline survey, 1st intervention AY2023: conducting 1st follow-up survey, 2nd intervention, and attending an international conference AY2024: conducting 2nd follow-up survey, attending an international conference, and submitting manuscripts to international journals

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The main objective of my research project is to encourage farmers' adoption of crop insurance. To attain this objective, I set up three research targets in AY2023 as follows. (1)Conduct 2 follow-up surveys corresponded with 2 rice seasons in Vietnam (2)Present preliminary results at the international conference and seminar (3)Write a manuscript and submit it to the accredited journal Basically, these targets were achieved. I collaborated with Thai Nguyen University of Agriculture and Forestry(TUAF), CARE International(an NGO), and Women Union to conduct two surveys and field experiments in Vietnam. The first data collection was carried out in April and May 2023 with 734 farming households; the second data collection was conducted in November and December 2023 with 724 farming households. Primary results showed significant impacts of network experience on the agricultural technology adoption of farmers within the network. Based on the findings, I presented at the Young JADE Conference(Japanese Association for Development Economics)in November 2023 and the TEA meeting of the 2024 Annual Conference of Agricultural Economics Society of Japan (AESJ). In addition, my manuscript was accepted to present at the 2024 EAERE conference(European Association of Environmental and Resource Economists.

Current Status of Research Progress
2: Research has progressed on the whole more than it was originally planned.
Reason
I completed research targets for AY2023, including conducting follow-up surveys, presenting at the conference and preparing manuscript.

Strategy for Future Research Activity |
In the AY2024 (April 2024-March 2025), my research targets are [1] to conduct end-line survey [2] to attend international conferences [3] to submit manuscripts to SSCI journals with impact factor The end-line survey will be conducted in the end of 2024. I am finalizing the first manuscript and I will submit it to an accredited journal in June 2024. In addition, I will prepare second manuscript and submit it in March 2025.
