Outline of Research at the Start

Outline of Final Research Achievements
This study evaluated diverse depression-like behaviors in repeated social defeat stress (RSDS) model mice and elucidated underlying neural mechanisms. RSDS induced decreased motivation for reward acquisition with reduced D1 receptor expression in the nucleus accumbens. Impaired social behavior correlated with altered neural responses in multiple brain regions, including the paraventricular hypothalamic nucleus. Furthermore, elevated blood urea nitrogen (BUN) levels and decreased glucocorticoid receptor expression in kidney were observed following RSDS. The correlation between BUN levels and social behavior suggested brain-kidney crosstalk involvement in RSDS-induced behavioral alterations. Developmental studies revealed baseline corticosterone levels exhibited temporal changes peaking during weaning period. Additionally, abnormal stress responses during weaning period were confirmed in BTBR autism spectrum disorder model mice.

Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements
