Outline of Research at the Start

(1)Meta-SEMによる先行研究の系統的レビュー,(2)エビデンスに基づく英文読解指導の効果検証を行う。具体的には(a)一次研究の大規模収集,(b)収集した文献の情報コーディング,(c)メタ分析に含める文献の適格性評価,(d)相関係数の統計的解析を行い,英文読解力とその構成要素の相対的重要度を探る統計解析を行う。Meta-SEMで推定した英文読解力を構成する各要素の相対的重要度を考慮した読解指導の効果も介入研究で検証する。読解指導において優先すべきとメタ分析が予測した知識・技能に,人的・時間的・経済的コストをかけた指導の効果を,クラスターランダム化比較実験により,効果量(教育効果の大きさ)を比較検証する。

Outline of Final Research Achievements

This study examined the relationship between second language (L2) reading and its component skills using meta-analytic structural equation modeling (MASEM). By modeling the structural relationships among components, the study tested the validity of the Simple View of Reading. Results confirmed that language comprehension skillsーincluding vocabulary, grammar, and listeningーcontribute more strongly to reading comprehension than decoding skills. The findings also demonstrated that metalinguistic skills contribute indirectly to reading proficiency. This research was published in Studies in Second Language Acquisition (5-year impact factor: 5.401), a leading journal in the field, and has been recognized as a significant contribution bridging theory and practice.
