オトマンゲ諸語の動詞形態論には、世界の言語のなかでも極めて珍しい、高度に複雑な構造が観察される。この複雑さは、一体、どのように理解すればいいのだろうか。つまり、母語話者は、語彙素ごとにその活用形を記憶しているのか。それとも、そこには何らかの生産的な共時的規則性が認められるのか。もし、認められるとすると、それはどのような性質のものか。この問いは、形態論の分野において本質的な課題である。本研究は、この学術的問いに、トラパネク語の事例を用いて、通方言的な構造比較という新接近法で取り組む。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this project, with the support of Grants-in-Aid for Scientific Research, I collected data from the Ayutla and Huehuetepec dialects of the Tlapanec language through fieldwork in Guerrero State, Mexico City, and Tokyo, as well as remote fieldwork using Zoom. The data mainly consist of conjugation elicitation of verbs and nouns, and analysis of folkores and natural discourse. As a result, despite abundant mismatches between form and function and irregularities in Tlapanec verb morphology, a general tendency was observed in which there are surprisingly few differences between dialects in this respect. This suggests that speakers do not memorize the conjugations of each verb individually, but that there is some kind of systematicity (phonological rules, morphosyntactic/semantic motivations) behind them.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
トラパネク語の動詞形態論は世界の言語の中でも稀にみる複雑性を呈し、形態論に関する類型論や理論の観点からも興味深いものである。本プロジェクトはこの複雑性の背後に潜む体系性を解明する試みの一つである。また、トラパネク語の多くの方言は児童が習得しておらず、近い将来消滅してしまう危機にある。特に、アソユ方言は話者人口の減少が著しいとされる。本プロジェクトでは、トラパネク語のドキュメンテーションを通して語彙のデータベースを構築したり民話を幾つか採取し分析することで、言語再活性化の取り組みにも寄与するものである。
