| Outline of Research at the Start |
本研究では、縄文時代後・晩期（B.C.2,300-800頃）における文化・社会変化の実態と地域的多様性を明らかにすることを目的として、集落動態に着目し、その変化の実態と背景を多角的に検討する。具体的には、近畿地方を対象に、①土器の考古学的分析による集落の継続期間および集団の系譜・地域間関係の検討、②土器付着炭化物の年代測定による実年代比定と気候変動との対比、土器の微細圧痕の同定および土器付着物の理化学的分析による自然資源利用・居住環境の変遷の検討、の３点を実施する。
本研究により、縄文時代における多様な文化・社会変化の具体像を示し、日本列島の先史文化・社会の多様性を解明することが期待できる。

| Outline of Final Research Achievements |
In this study, to discuss the diversity of prehistoric cultures in Japan archipelago, I focused on following three terms, revealing the settlements of Jomon in actual situations, and its historical dynamics, investigation about plant use by observing the micro impressions of pottery surface, using the silicon rubber replica, and considering the relationship between the absolute chronology and the Jomon pottery type chronology in the Kinki region by the radiocarbon dating of charred residues on pottery.
As a result, I reported the Jomon pottery excavated from the Furu site (Tenri city, Nara Pref.) and the Babagawa site (Higashiosaka city, Osaka Pref.). And I revealed the historical dynamics of Jomon settlements in Nara basin. At the viewpoint of plant use, I discovered the evidences of using soybeans from middle to late Jomon period in the Kinki region. In addition, I applied the absolute chronology to the Jomon pottery type chronology in the Kinki region.

| Academic Significance and Societal Importance of the Research Achievements |
本研究では、重要遺跡の資料報告により、研究基盤の形成を進めた。また、奈良盆地を事例として遺跡動態の検討をおこない、集落の継続性や土地利用形態に時期的な変化があることを具体的に示した。植物利用では、土器圧痕調査の実施により、近畿地方においてもダイズ属の利用が普遍的に存在したことを明らかにした。また、その種子形態からは栽培化の兆候が示唆されるものの、栽培行為を決定づける遺物が欠落していることから、マメ類の利用形態について再考を促す事例と位置付けた。土器付着炭化物の分析では、分析対象となった土器の型式学的な位置づけを相互的に検討し、暦年代について一定程度の信頼性をもつデータ群を構築した。
