Outline of Research at the Start

A set of requirements for the design of technology-assisted social signals to overcome physically produced social communication impairments will be created through exploration of the production and perception of facial expressions of emotion. Sensory substitution for blind and healthy individuals will be delivered with neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) and haptic vibration. In parallel, the socio-affective expressions of individuals with visual impairments will be assessed to understand the gap between expressions produced with and without visual feedback.
