Outline of Research at the Start |
The interaction of a high intensity laser with an ultra-thin (few nm thin) graphene target generates extremely energetic ions. Ions with such high energies have not been observed before in any other materials and the mechanism behind this energetic ion generation from graphene remains unknown even with the help of conventional electromagnetic (EM) simulations. Hence, through a combination of atomic physics and EM simulation, this anomalous ion generation mechanism is identified and its onset conditions are being explored. This is essential for consistent, high-quality energetic ion generation.

Outline of Annual Research Achievements |
The objectives outlined in the initial research proposal have not only been met but also surpassed. At present, two manuscripts, with myself as the primary author, are under peer review at the journals of Scientific Reports and High Energy Density Physics. Additionally, through collaborative efforts and active participation in experiments, I am listed as a co-author on three papers currently under review at Physics of Plasmas, High Energy Density Physics, and Scientific Reports. I am the main author in one instance and as a co-author in five international conference presentations. Moreover, three additional co-authored international conference presentations are scheduled in 2024. Beyond the original research scope, a single author paper is published in Chaos journal.
