Research Abstract |
This research proposes dependable and long lifetime disk systems based on flash memories.This proposes neighboring error correcting code for dependability, and garbage correction for long lifetime. Neighboring error correcting code corrects errors to neighboring values. This code requires small check symbols by restricting error patterns. Garbage correction discriminates between frequently updated data and non-frequently updated data. By changing the position for the former data sometimes in flash memory chips, the number of erasure in the specified cells is restricted. From this, life time of flash memories is extended.
