Research Abstract |
Since the wastewater drained from kitchens of restaurants includes oils, it causes clogged sewage pipe and overload to the sewage plant. This study proposes a new kitchen wastewater treatment system that combines two-step up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor and a down-flow hanging sponge (DHS) reactor coupled with ozone treatment. This treatment system can save energy, recover methane gas and promote oil decomposition. This lab-scale system has been operated continuously for around two years using kitchen wastewater from our school dormitory cafeteria. This treatment performance and effectiveness of the ozone treatment were investigated.
