Research Abstract |
The aim of this research was to make an philosophical analysis of the Japanese traditional concepts of beauty: "Wabi", "Sabi", "Yuugen". In this research, we examined the theory of OHNISHI Yoshinori (a Japanese researcher of aesthetics; 1888-1959) concerning these concepts especially, and pointed out the problems. And we tried to analyze these concepts from our original point of view. We defined two basic functions of art and beauty and the characteristics peculiar to the three concepts of beauty from the viewpoint of these two functions.
