| Research Abstract |
In notable results of this research we proved that not only the paintings and calligraphy but also the decorative qualities, such as ornamented papers of Waka poem albums or mountings of screens, were evaluated among the imperial court of the 17th century. In the Hyakunin Isshu Albums by Kano Tanyu and et-al, formerly owned by the feudal load Date family, the imported papers with wood-block decoration of Ming-Qing style were used adding the Japanese style ornamentations. Their decorative sense is similar to that of the enamel paintings of the Ninsei Ware of the mid-17th century. In the Screens of the Twelve Months Celebrating the 70th Birth-day of the Empress Meishoin by Yamamoto Soken, their decorative qualities are coincident with the document which recorded that celebration in 1692. Through both examples, we could know the yearning for the imperial culture of the upper warriors, and the tense relationship between the imperial court and the Tokugawa Shogunate of the 17th century.
