Outline of Final Research Achievements |
This study surveys a variety of Pastorals in the Eighteenth Century Britain. As a premise, Idylls of Theocritus, Eclogues of Virgil, Pastorals in the Renaissance Italy, Spenser's Shepheard's Calendar and Milton's "Lycidas" are discussed. The Eighteenth Century British Poets transformed a traditional pastoral into various types of new ones, such as Local Pastorals, Pastoral Ballads, Town Eclogues, Piscatory Eclogues, Exotic Eclogues. They put new wine into the old bottles, and Romantic Nature Poems took the place of old-fashioned Pastorals.
