Research Abstract |
In Japan, the rate of students going on to universities attains to approximately 50%. The aim of this research is to examine the impressions and expectations of universities, students, and higher education policies under such circumstances. We analyzed the issues of universities and students in the magazine articles from the 1990's onward, and then conducted social survey on public opinions of universities, students, and higher education policies. The main findings are as follows: 1) the magazine articles have accused the problems of universities excessively, 2) the other hand, the public recognizes that universities are useful and expects the government to expand financial support so as to meet the latent demands for opportunities to attend universities.
