Research Abstract |
Radiation-induced turnover of tissue stem cells was evaluated by genetic lineagetracing of intestinal tissue stem cells (Lgr5+ stem cells). X-rays induced loss of Lgr5+stem cells and reduced Lgr5 gene expression in the colon but not in the duodenum. Lossof colonic Lgr5+ stem cells seemed to be compensated by de novo production of Lgr5+ stemcells. These findings are important evidences to understand radiation-inducedcarcinogenesis.
