Research Abstract |
Tone sandhi and neutral tone which are two typical types of tone variation occur frequently in the speech of Pekingese. Our previous studies revealed that a part of tone sandhi and neutral tone are motivated by the addition of affix at the level of morphology. This morphophonological study concentrates on the relationship between the addition of affix and these two types of tone variation focusing upon the three categories of number expressions (cardinal number, ordinal number and countable nouns number). The corpora of Pekingese TV dramas provided us with data that what kinds of affix cause tone sandhi and neutral tone about three categories of number expressions. In addition, we conducted a survey into the change of vocative expressions recent twenty years making use of the same corpora of Pekingese TV dramas.
