The Wari Empire developed from A.D. 800 to A.D. 1000 in the Andean region of South America. This research took as an example the El Palacio site, an administrative center located at northern extreme of the Wari Empire, in order to understand the common characteristics within Andean urban structures and the uniqueness of El Palacio. The third season of excavations was carried out at El Palacio and analyzed the excavated materials in detail. There are two types of administrative centers in the Wari Empire: the first is the rectangular type whose interior is subdivided and the second type is composed of an accumulation of irregular structures. It was supposed that while not many people lived continuously at the first type of center, relatively more people occupied the second type of center that contains canals and tombs. The El Palacio site corresponds to the second type.
