The main objective of this study is to reveal the molecular mechanisms underlying host-symbiont interactions in deep-sea hydrothermal vent environments. We especially have focused on sugar chains which might play important roles in the host-symbiont interactions. We have analyzed biological functions of unique sugar chains and glycan-binding proteins in various symbiotic systems (both episymbiosis and endosymbiosis).
