Research Abstract |
STUDY 1: The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the multidimensional hierarchical model of self-esteem in para-athletes. The second purpose was to determine if physical self-perception was related to various demographic variables. Results indicated that physical self-worth did not mediate the relation. Regression analysis indicated that physical self-perception was determined by DSE. STUDY 2: The purpose of this study was to examine differences in self-esteem by gender and the level of competition in sport in deaf athletes. An additional purpose was to assess the association of self-esteem with age, length of participation in sport, and DSE. Regression analysis indicated that DSE significantly predicted self-esteem subscales except public self-consciousness. Thus, DSE can enhance some aspects of self-esteem.
