Research Abstract |
The objective of the research was to investigate Islamic religious schools', known as madrasa, potential contribution to accelerating educational attainments among Muslims in Bangladesh, India, and Pakistan. With a cross-country comparative perspective, the research looked into the meaning of madrasas in Muslims' social lives in South Asia. The findings suggest that cultural merit of education continues to have profound impact on the adaptability of madrasas. On the other hand, states' reform initiatives to modernize these schools are yet to be successful due to the gap between the notion of human development promoted by the madrasas and by the national education system in each country.
