This study focused on rise of populism in the metropolitan areas in Japan. The aim of this study was to examine support base of Nagoya Mayor Takashi Kawamura and Osaka Mayor Toru Hashimoto by analyzing survey data. We found that distrust of public servants was important factors supporting them. But, their supporters were not homogeneous. Additionally, we found that independents were not main actors in the populism movement in Nagoya, and that populism support was associated with regional factor.
